Magnetic Photo Rope

Accessories | 29 December 06

Photojojo says they have the awesomest picture display in the whole wide world (the whole universe, even!) and their claim isn’t far from the truth. It’s quite simple really: just a cool wire and eight cool magnets to attach your favorite pictures.

If you purchase it and discover your life is so boring you don’t even have eight pictures to display, it can double as a noose — just make sure you will us all your stuff before you depart for the choir invisible.

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro

Electronics | 14 October 05

CNET takes a gander at the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro and gives it a rating 8.4 (currently second highest). We found ours at Comp-U-Plus for only $89 and snatched them up faster than you can say “Sennheiser” — which isn’t very fast, but that’s beside the point.

Here’s what CNET said:

Sennheiser’s ruggedly constructed HD 280 Pro high-performance headphones feature comfortable leatherette ear cushions, a headband, and a foldable design for compact storage. These headphones are a lot of fun yet still have enough suave refinement to sound right with classical music. The delicate interplay of harpsichord and strings on Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons CD was utterly beautiful, demonstrating the HD 280 Pros’ versatility with all sorts of music–a rare feat. If you’re thinking of using the HD 280 Pros with an iPod, you won’t be disappointed. The headphones’ resolution came through loud and clear with ours.

VSmile TV Learning System

Toys | 13 October 05

VSmile TV Learning System

In order to properly train children to want more stuff like us adults, we must give them lots of toys at infancy. Send them on the road of eternal acquisition with the toy of the year 2005, the VSmile TV Learning System.

This “Toy of the Year” jazz was most likely judged by an adult — which explains the educational aspect of the “toy.” When we were kids, we did not play with any toy that had the word “learning” in the title. But that’s just us…

The New York City Walk/Don’t Walk chair

Furniture | 12 October 05

New York City Walk/Don\'t Walk chairIf a man were furnishing a room, this is what he would put in it. But no, the women have to do all the designing and we have to endure comfortable, padded furniture with a cool factor of zero. Will it never end?!

The New York City “Walk/Don’t Walk” signs actually work and a remote control is included to turn them on and off. The legs are made from reconfigured, customized steel street sign brackets, with galvanized, heavy duty self-leveling feet.

AOL Triton

Software | 12 October 05

AOL Triton screenshotFor all of you who live to send instant messages (you know who you are), here’s something to quicken your pulse: AIM Triton. Triton is a welcome change to the aging design AOL has made us endure all these years. With the advent of so many good instant messaging programs, we wonder if this is too little, too late.

We consulted our handy-dandy Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary (10th edition) to discover what a “triton” was:

1. Any of various chiefly tropical marine gastropod mollusks of the family Cymatiidae, having a pointed, spirally twisted, often colorfully marked shell.

2. The nucleus of tritium, consisting of two neutrons and one proton.

Okaaaaay.

Bugatti Veyron

Vehicles | 11 October 05

No matter how much you beg your wife, she will not let you get a $1.2 million car that goes 250-mph. But it doesn’t hurt to try.

When you consider that the takeoff speed of a Boeing 737 is 173-mph, the Bugatti Veyron is a little scary. The editors at Autoweek put the pedal to the metal and don’t come back the same.

Despite taking a couple of years longer than first thought, Bugatti finally appears to have delivered on then-Volkswagen chairman Ferdinand Piech’s promise of making the EB16.4 Veyron the world’s fastest road car. It cranks out 987 hp. Blasts to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds. Hits 250 mph flat-out. Hold on as we take it for an exclusive first drive.

This car can’t be measured by traditional road-car standards. It’s just too powerful, too extreme, too darn fast. Nothing, and we mean nothing, can prepare you for the feeling you experience deep within the pit of your stomach the first time you drive it with real purpose. Comparisons with other road cars do not apply, for there simply is no parallel. Not a fair one at least.

Columbus Day t-shirt

Clothing | 10 October 05

Columbus Day is one of the greatest holidays for us because on this day all of the United States joins together to celebrate the very first man who brought stuff to North America. We all know Columbus was a pioneer, but it is seldom reported he was a pack rack of enviable proportions. Today we proudly stand to salute Columbus and the race that birthed him, the Italians.

Most think that Columbus wanted to discover a new world, but we have recently discovered all he wanted to do was get away from his Italian mother-in-law; finding North America was just extra. Regardless of his reasons, he took 3 huge ships with him just to carry everything.

Columbus’ story has a good ending, but most Italians cannot run away from their mother-in-law, much less have the King and Queen pay for the trip. So just wear the “I survived an Italian Mother In Law” t-shirt and hope for the best.

Motorola ROKR E1 iTunes phone

Electronics | 7 October 05

You have probably heard of the Motorola ROKR E1 iTunes phone, Apple’s 127th version of the iPod – we exaggerate with the 127 number, but we aren’t far off.

We have run this new phone through its paces and it’s not all that exciting. Sure, you have 100 songs on an otherwise bland phone, but we are still looking for the same pizzazz that makes the other 126 different styles of iPods special.

With just the rudimentary features to make the iPod portion of the phone work, the Motorola Rokr is a yawner. While the software interface is similar to iPod, there is no super-neato circle scroll thingy. In our extremely humble opinion, it’s an unimaginably stupid move.
